Covid-19: Number of cases beyond China, Indonesia 'has the potential to become an epicenter' in Asia

Monday (20/07) the number of Covid-19 cases in Indonesia reached 88,214 cases, with the addition of cases over the past two days above 1,600 new cases, amid easing by the government since last June.  Epidemiology experts and mathematical modeling experts say the trend of increasing cases will continue to occur, with the pandemic expected to continue until at least next year.

The warning that Indonesia has the potential to be a center for the spread or epicenter of the corona virus was delivered by epidemiologist from Griffith University Australia, Dicky Budiman, in a number of publications.

He said, India, Brazil, and Indonesia had the potential to become the next center for outbreaks because they had their own vulnerabilities, given the high population density, the factor of population awareness of prevention and the health system that was still not well established.

"Why Indonesia?" accused "of becoming a new epicenter because of its large population and population adherence to such a regulation. It could be potentially spread even more, with the opening of various facilities and the difficulty of monitoring," explained Nuning.
